What is a Shelf Share?
A Shelf Share includes approximately one half-moon kiln shelf (13" × 26") with up to 10" of vertical kiln space. Taller pieces may require two or more Shelf Shares.
What is a Kiln Load?
A Kiln Load reserves approximately one kiln's usable capacity for your work in a single firing. It does not mean exclusive use of the kiln, and the Shop may include other compatible work.
When do I need to drop off my pieces?
Please drop off your pieces by 5:00 PM on the date of your booking. Pieces not dropped off by the deadline will forfeit the booking fee.
What are the clay and material requirements?
Work submitted for firing must: Be made from a clearly identified clay body suitable for the requested firing range; Be completely dry before bisque firing; Be fully bisque-fired before glaze firing; Use glazes, underglazes, slips, stains, and other ceramic materials that are appropriate for the requested firing range; Be free of unknown materials, contaminants, metal, wire, nails, found objects, organic matter, paint, sealers, resin, adhesive, or other non-ceramic materials unless specifically approved in advance; Be structurally sound and suitable for kiln firing.
What information do I need to provide when dropping off work?
You will need complete the required Kiln Share form when booking, provide your contact information, number of pieces, firing type and cone, a description of the work, and any relevant firing instructions or concerns.
What is your drop off policy?
Drop-offs are accepted only during the Shop's designated open hours or by appointment.
Customers must bring work safely packed and clearly labeled. The Shop is not responsible for damage caused by inadequate packaging before drop-off or after pickup.
The Shop may inspect work at drop-off, but an inspection does not guarantee that a piece is safe to fire or that the customer's material information is accurate.
A Kiln Load reservation should be made in advance. The Shop may combine shelf-share work with compatible customer work at its discretion.
How should I prepare my work for firing?
Work must be completely dry for a bisque firing and fully bisque-fired before being submitted for a glaze firing.
Pieces must be structurally sound, safely packed, and clearly labeled. Glaze must be kept at least ¼" away from the foot or any surface that will touch the kiln shelf. Additional protection may be required for pieces with a higher risk of glaze running.
Can you guarantee when my work will be fired?
No. We make every effort to fire work within our normal schedule, but timing depends on kiln availability, drying time, equipment, safety considerations, and other operational factors.
What happens if my piece damages the kiln or another piece?
Customers may be responsible for reasonable cleaning, repair, replacement, or related costs if their work causes damage due to glaze runs, explosions, contamination, inaccurate material information, or other customer-caused conditions.
How long do I have to pick up my work?
Please pick up your work within 7 days of being notified that it is ready. Storage fees may apply after 7 days, and work left for more than 30 days may be considered abandoned unless an extension has been approved.
Can my piece break or have a different result than expected?
Yes. Ceramic firing involves inherent risks, and pieces may crack, break, warp, explode, or develop unexpected glaze or surface results. While we handle and fire work with reasonable care, firing results cannot be guaranteed.
